The Montgomery Brewer papers

What's here ...

These pages are mainly history pages. There are family histories tracing my lines of descent - the Brewers and the Mudges - as far as can be determined. A series of photographs of the Klepsk - Okunin area in western Poland, once Klemzig and Langmeil in Brandenburg, give some idea of where the Schillings came from - they are connected to the Mudges. Included are the beginnings of some work on Tremellens and a line of Pattersons from whom Leah's Montgomery connection is made.

The other history pages are yet to be completed.

Brewers   The Brewer descent, to the immediate post WW2 generation, is from German, English and west country ancestors. William Brewer (1835-1898) arrived in 1879 with his wife Charlotte, nee Buffett/Puffett (1860-1847). The Brewers comes from south Gloucestershire around Cold Ashton and Marshfield. The Buffett/Puffetts come from Filkins Oxfordshire via south Glamorgan.

Mudges   The Mudges, my immediate paternal antecedents on my mother's side, are from the Torquay area in Devon. They arrived in 1838. Several collateral lines migrated about the same time. Some of the family claim a connection to Zachariah Mudge (1694-1769), vicar of St Andrews Plymouth. That connection may exist but before Zachariah Mudge was born. That is, as far as I can tell. My grandfather Angus () married Olive Westbrook (), who was the child of a marriage between John Westbrook () and ? Schilling ().

Westbrooks   Of the Westbrooks I know very little at the moment and would appreciate any help from descendants of John Westbrook.

Schillings   The Schillings, arrived in South Australia in 1838 from Langmeil, a small village in Kries Zullichau Brandenberg, an area now part of western Poland. This page is pictures taken inthe area in 1996.

Tremellen This is the direct line to the Australian Tremellens. There is an American branch of the family too.

Pattersons   Of the Pattersons, more later.

History   Here are the Records of Cold Ashton, Gloucestershire. They are from Notes and Queries, and are a useful record of that parish up to the 16th century.

I want to put some of the data I have collected on the history of rural settlement in Australia. This includes lists of 19th century Port Phillip (Victoria) squatters and their sheep and cattle runs. I am, as yet, unable to find a client side database which works to didplay the material in the manner I want it to. The squatters' list is on the server as a zip file which can be downloaded. It is a tab delimited txt file  Squatters.zip.

I also have material on the settlement of Kangaroo Island and the western districts of Victoria which I have yet to convert to HTML and post on this site.

Independent Church Registers   These are Various records, Gloucestershire. They are the transcripts of some Independent church records I have done recently while searching for my Brewer ancestors. Go to this page and follow the links.
